Physical Education ProgramCountryside is the only accredited Montessori School in the United States with a fully integrated physical education program. Physical education is offered daily for all students in our fully equipped gymnasium. The purpose of the basic movement program at Countryside is to provide each child with the opportunity to experience a variety of activities which will not only help develop his motor skills, but also encourage the child to become self-disciplined, more skilled in motor tasks, more aware and proud of himself, more confident in bearing and posture, and more accepting of challenges. The three movement programs, each geared to the needs of a particular age group, provide opportunities for the growth of a child's social skills and problem-solving abilities, as well as many other skills and attitudes. In General, the Physical Education program is based on the needs, characteristic abilities, and basic urges of children. Therefore, Countryside offers a balanced and varied program covering many experiences with proportional emphasis on basic movement, rhythms, physical development, stunts and tumbling, games and relays and selected sports. |
